You are nothing.”] Before you can say anything, she hauls you up over her shoulder, splinted leg and all, and carries you out through the tunnel into thin grey light. She sets you down on a ridge above the valley, where the wreck of your ship is still smoking. Sets the beacon down beside you. Steps back. “Nothing can go,” she says. “Do not come back. When the medics ask about the bone splint, you tell them you found it. Nobody asks twice. Months later, a survey team goes back to catalogue the wreck.
